Easy leakage signs

1. Your soaring water bill

If your water bill has gone up significantly without reason, this could indicate a leak.

You are lucky in this case as at least it can be identified at a very early stage and easy to fix. Perhaps something most homes have encountered is the drip from a tap. This can happen for different reasons: general wear and tear, a build-up of debris, or when your kid doesn’t turn the tap tight enough. It can even leak if you over-tighten the valve, as it can damage the washer in the faucet.

2. Water stains or moldy spots

Most leaks originate from water-relevant fixtures such as bathtubs, shower enclosures, sinks, and toilets.

It is a clever idea to check these areas from time to time to see any water stains or little moldy spots. They are tell-tale signs, that your bathroom could leak. They can cause severe damage if the water constantly leaks and comes into contact with the surrounding wall or floor.

Watching out for these areas, you could save yourself from an expensive future repair bill.

3. Curly vinyl flooring or darkened spots on carpet corners

Vinyl flooring is prone to rot and will often curl at the edges from prolonged exposure to water. If you see that sign, please have a closer look at it.

When the color of your carpet corners suddenly looks darker than the other areas, it is worth having a check. Some water might have come underneath from the bathroom or toilet.

4. Cracked/loose tiles or damaged silicone sealants and grouting

Tiled floors can leak through cracked tiles or problems with the silicone or grouting. These problems seem to be “tiny,” but it is not, as water is allowed to escape through cracks on tiles or deteriorating silicone or grouting.

Moldy tiles are a warning sign that there may be gaps in your grouting or silicon. Tiles often will come loose or fall off as a result.

Your responses to leakage

The first thing you should do is not to call a tiler but a plumber who is an expert, to check all the pipelines, taps, or hoses to detect whether there is any plumbing problem.

If the answer is: No.

Then, it is time for a TILER to get involved. Leakage can be caused by a damaged or improper waterproofing layer, which you cannot see. Or simply, leakage can be resulted from degrading silicone joints and under-quality grouting areas.
